Alyssa
Milano and Holly Marie Combs became producers this season of their
"Charmed" series and promptly fired the crew -- which included Holly's
boyfriend.
Holly says of the dismissal of David Donoho, her beau of three years, "He
was bored with the show anyway; he wanted to do movies."
The housecleaning in general, she notes, "is making the series look
1,000 percent better. We stole cinematographer Jonathan West away from 'CSI,'
and I tell you, he makes us all look 10 years younger. Production values have
improved more than I can say."
She can't say she's happy that "Charmed" kicks off the season on Sept.
22.
"We were supposed to debut for the fall on Sept. 29, but in some kind of
brilliant counter programming or something, they moved us up -- to compete
against the Emmys! The network seems to feel our demographics won't be watching
the Emmys, but I think they're wrong."
She thinks the WB powers were more than right to be moving the show to Sunday
nights at 8 p.m. As she explains, "Nothing could be worse than being on at
Thursdays at 9, as we were. On Sundays, the pressure is off."
Combs reveals that WB is saying it wants to get at least a couple more years out
of "Charmed." Will she stay until the end?
"Absolutely," she says. "There's a bad karma thing attached to
actors -- like David Caruso or Farrah Fawcett -- who leave successful shows to
do other things."
