Charmed: Dragon’s Heart

By Lisa Eiseman

Creating an exciting storyline after so many seasons can be a difficult challenge for any writer. How fortunate are viewers that Charmed has such talented writers that keep the viewing standards at such a high level.

By and far dragons are such fable creatures it was entertaining to see that Wyatt wanted something to play with that normal people wouldn’t begin to think a reality. The fact that the writers are beginning to use Wyatt’s powers more, seems to be a possible avenue for the future.

With Wyatt having more powers, the strongest seen in a long time, it would be expected that the major storyline for this season will be Wyatt, what Chris has to do with Wyatt and if Leo and Piper will make it in the end.

Seriously, the future of Charmed does need to be considered. It has not escaped the attention of the viewers that Rose McGowan has not re-signed her contract for next year. Many viewers are becoming somewhat nervous that the series has written itself into a corner with the overwhelming fact that it needs to be “the power of three”.

With the strengthening of Wyatt’s powers this theory could be negated on the reality that the writers may make him able to defeat evil like the power of three does. One must speculate that it is awfully convenient that both The Cleaners and The Seer (from last season), not to mention the Elders know that great and powerful things will come from Wyatt. Add in to this knowledge that we know Chris came from the future with the sole purpose of protecting Wyatt from a demon and the viewers can only assume that the writers will give us a storyline with Baby Halliwell as the concentration.

Having Wyatt as the main story arch is not a problem, it would almost seem unjust for Charmed to come to any end with out some resolution to Wyatt’s future and the purpose of Chris.

Knowing that Chris is here on both a good and possibly evil level makes questions abound when viewers think of Chris. It seems that the writers may have a little flaw, however, when it comes to continuality…many viewers may have caught on that it seems odd that Leo as an Elder would not know what the future holds for his own son or why Chris would be there. Am I wrong in remembering that the Elders know what will come to pass in the future? Wouldn’t the Elders be privileged to the fact of what Chris is doing in the past and why the future has such potential for destruction?

While this week did nothing to further a reconciliation between Piper and Leo it did confirm the fact that with or without Wyatt they would supposedly be in the same place with their marriage. While this is a little hard to believe, it must be pointed out that Leo would not have become an Elder necessarily if not pushed by Chris and if he would have become an Elder anyway, it wouldn’t have mattered too much because they might have figured out a way to make the relationship work, or not. Need less to say, this is where the writers have decided to take this relationship and while it might not be that great to the viewers, we can only take faith in the fact that the writers haven’t usually taken down the wrong path.

This and That:
· Having Phoebe start a riot in her place of business was extremely out of character. I get that she was only acting off other’s emotions, but I’m hoping that she gets her powers under control fast.
· Seeing Paige back at work is very much a delight. The “innocent of the week” is also helpful for advancing her character’s personality as caring. The thing that really spooked me was the fact that she could turn herself into someone else. I don’t remember that power from any time before last season, and it left me feeling like I had missed a critical development.
· Can’t stress enough how much Rose looked uncomfortable in her very high stiletto heels. Too bad she had to keep those on for so long.
· Can I take a moment and say how great it is that the special effects department or stunt department does a great job at throwing the girls or whatever person around making them look like flying through the air was real and slamming into something was very hurtful.
· Loved that dragons were in this episode and Cleaners were introduced. More magical community every episode!
· Editing needed some work, especially when the second Cleaner spoke his lines, it was very obvious that those were re-recorded in a studio.

Overall, this episode was fun and helped show that Wyatt is going to be a central figure for this season. Just can’t wait to see how this season goes.

Next Week:
The blonde version of The Charmed Ones? Who knows, but it looks suspicious that the blondes can touch The Book of Shadows.
