Oh My Goddess: Final
Goodbyes?
fi·nal·e Stunned. The end of Leo and Piper? Trying to wrap our minds around the implications from this season finale will
be difficult indeed. Therefore, let's try to move through this two-hour season
finale step by step. The Titans While it was interesting to see such a formable opponent for the Charmed
Ones, it did seem a little wasteful on the writers’ part. The Titans were
interesting, but hardly fleshed out. This foe could have easily been created
into a five-episode arc giving more depth and challenge for the girls. Allowing
for a season "big bad" to fight against. Although the story had small
elaborations, it still had gaping holes that would have added to the story if
they were filled in. Why did the Titans blame the Elders for their imprisonment and not the Gods
that put them there (besides the fact that the Elders gave the Gods their
powers)? What type of relationship existed between Demetrius and Meta, and how
was Cronus involved? While we understood that the Titans were strong opponents, it was still murky
as to why they could retain their powers after such a long time. The writers
could have helped the believability of the story by giving more background
information regarding the Titans. Building more tension and foreboding by using
an episode arc instead of pulling this formable opponent from thin air (or
should I say ice) would have been more appealing. Phoebe and Paige Both women were still in the recovering from the previous week’s problems.
Paige was still seemingly angry with men and Phoebe was still "in
love" with Jason, or maybe just in love with the idea of being in love.
While it seemed that both Paige and Phoebe were just afterthoughts for this
episode, they did have some key moments that helped shape this finale. Without Phoebe and Paige, Piper may have remained a Goddess. Piper needed her
sisters to help her through the process of coming home to Wyatt. Both Paige and Phoebe were simply active in these episodes to bring comedic
relief for a more somber tale of the Charmed Ones’ lives. So while the writers
may have resorted to some slapstick humor, it did help lighten up the entire
finale. Piper’s Heartbreak The most compelling part of this entire finale was Holly Marie Combs’
heartbreaking portrayal of Piper. Through the years the audience has seen what
Piper and Leo have suffered and overcome for their love. To see everything gone
in one episode is so mind blowing we're left speechless. Throughout the entire episode, it was evident that Piper was trying to put
off the obvious knowledge that Leo was going to become an Elder. It is like when
you know the fate of something but don’t want that outcome to be realized, so
you try to ignore what you already have comprehended. Every scene with Combs and
Brian Krause in the second part of the finale were just heartbreaking. The only
complaint I have is that it was unfair for Leo to take away Piper’s pain at
the end. Showing Piper as accepting to such a life altering change at the end
was so unnatural. In a way, it was almost cheating us audience members, since
our pain wasn’t taken as well. Magical Community It was rewarding for the viewers to see so many previous characters return to
help the Charmed Ones. This entire season has been about the Charmed Ones
becoming more involved in the magical community, (seeing they have such a
powerful and important baby that will play a big role in the magical community)
it would make sense that the innocents that have been saved by the Charmed Ones
would seek them out again for protection. It also would make sense for those of
the community that were able to offer support and protection provided that as
well during the crisis. Hopefully, next season this "little community"
will continue to grow. New White Lighter While many had guessed that the white lighter that came from the future was
Wyatt, we were undelightfuly surprised to find that he is not Wyatt and his
motivations are still unknown. Chris’ appearance seemed to be very fortunate and helpful at first, but as
he began to manipulate and maneuver everyone around it started becoming evident
that his intentions weren’t necessarily good. After Wyatt showed that he
sensed that Chris was evil, it probably surprised many viewers. Hopefully,
however, Piper will continue to question Chris’ motives and find out what he
is really all about. While I’m hesitant to mention the final scene with Chris and Leo, it would
be incorrect to simply ignore it. I’m sure that many will have conflicting
views on the implications of this scene since it was really unclear as to
whether Chris did vanquish Leo or missed him at the end. While it would be
presumptuous to state for certain that Leo was vanquished, it would seem that in
this scene it was implied that Leo was vanquished and this would coincide with
the "evil" that we see Chris portray in Wyatt’s presence. However,
this viewer is holding out for hope that Leo was not vanquished. Implications and Changes Numerous implications have been set up with this episode for next year’s
season. The girls will have a new White Lighter that may or may not be evil.
Piper, Phoebe and Paige will all be raising Wyatt together. Paige may not be
staying as a super witch for much longer and venture back out into the work
world. And of course, will there or won’t there be a Leo for next season? Either separately or together, all of these changes will have major
implications for the series. For the final Charmed article on ScoopMe!

season has done for the series and where the sisters can go next season. This-and-That:
