Marie Combs Dishes on Life With Her Boys
Sept. 2008 - Celebrity-babies.com
Actress Holly Marie Combs is one
of our favorite famous moms here at CBB, and when she called
us recently to share stories about her sons, her new
Lifetime-TV pilot and the possibility of a Charmed reunion,
we couldn't have been more excited! Read below for more on
Holly's life as a mom to Riley Edward, 23 months, and Finley
Arthur, 4 -- and her terrifying battle with postpartum
thyroiditis.
CBB: Hi Holly! What are you up to?
Holly: I'm in Vancouver shooting this pilot, Mistresses, for
Lifetime, and I'm without my kids for the first time! I've
never been away from them for this long. I made the decision
not to bring them: Riley came down with an ear infection two
days before we were supposed to leave, so he couldn't fly,
and I was very upset about that. And Finley was just in so
many four-year-old activities, like summer school and
karate, that we couldn't take him out.
I was forced to come up here without either one of them, and
it's so weird to me! My husband [David Donoho] sends me
pictures of them on the playground, and they look years
older to me even though I've only been gone a matter of
days!

Are there any television characters/actors you believe could
carry a spin-off? --Sophie
Let me say it, Sophie: I love sassy witches. In particular,
Charmed's Holly Marie Combs. Her sensible mom o' two, Piper
Halliwell, is adorably exasperated at all things silly, which
would serve her well on ''the outside.'' Should the Charmed
formula ever need a tweak, I think Piper could leave her
troubled marriage, set up her bar in another windy city,
Chicago, and do the single-mom thing quite amusingly. Think
Bewitched's Samantha sans hubby. It's a darrin proposition, but
it just might work.

'Charmed'
star Holly Marie Combs casts spell over viewers
New York Times Syndicate, Oct. 12, 2004
"When we
started Charmed, we had no expectations," Holly Marie Combs
says. "We knew that we were having a good time.
"We didn't receive a lot of publicity," she recalls. "I think
that Felicity was the big show that year, and Charmed was kind
of in the background. So we were really surprised to last so
long, and we're all still surprised."
The WB
Piper Halliwell (Combs, center) stands with her sister Phoebe
Halliwell (Alyssa Milano, left) and half-sister Paige Matthews
(Rose McGowan).
The year was 1998, and the WB quietly cast its Charmed spell,
introducing Combs, Shannen Doherty and Alyssa Milano as the
sisters Halliwell -- Piper, Prue and Phoebe -- good witches who
use their powers to save the world from evil. While other shows
burst on the scene and then imploded, Felicity among them,
Charmed steadily grew in popularity.
Now in its seventh season, the series continues to thrive. Fans
quickly embraced Rose McGowan, who signed on to play half-sister
Paige after Doherty exited following Season 3. And Piper --
thanks in part to her relationship with Leo (Brian Krause),
which resulted in the birth of a child, Wyatt -- emerged as the
show's heart and soul.
"My character has gone through so many changes, really," Combs
says. "Piper started out as a very insecure, modern woman trying
to control everything. She was kind of neurotic. She's evolved
into a mother and wife and the head of the family. She's matured
greatly.
"That was very important to me -- that, in the midst of all this
supernatural stuff that we do, we also portray real women with
real problems, and we show the evolution we all go through in
life," the actress says. "It's hard for people to relate to
being a witch, but it's much easier to relate to a woman who's
got sisters, a husband and children."
Combs makes a point of expressing her delight at this season's
array of guest stars: Nick Lachey is on board as Phoebe's love
interest. Charisma Carpenter recently turned up as a demonic
seer and will be back for more. Kerr Smith of Dawson's Creek
recently kicked off a long stint as Agent Brody, who discovers
the girls' secret and romances Paige.
"It's nice to know that people still want to come in and work
with us," Combs says. "You never know, because after seven years
people in the industry can be saying, `Oh, God, is that show
still on?' So we're lucky. We're still on, we're still doing
well, and people like Nick and Charisma and Kerr want to be with
us on Charmed."
And how about Combs? How hard is it for her to stay interested?
"You know what? It's not," the actress says. "We have such a
cushy job. We're so spoiled; they treat us so well. Charmed
really lightens up people's week, and it does a great service.
We're just here to entertain -- we're not brain surgery.
"As long as there's still an interest and as long as people are
still coming up to me and saying, `I love your show,' it's easy
to stay interested," Combs says. "In my personal life my
priorities have shifted -- I have a son. But as long as I can
make time for him, I'm OK."
Right now Charmed, which airs
Sundays on the WB, is as strong in the ratings as ever. Combs,
McGowan and Milano are under contract for one more season, which
means that Combs most likely will be back in her director's
chair at this time next year.
"I think there's a bad karma attached to an actor wanting to get
out of a successful show," Combs says. "It's like looking a gift
horse in the mouth, and I just can't condone it in any way."

Holly Marie
Comb's son casts a spell over her and her Charmed Costars
People Magazine- Jadran Lazic - August 2004
Holly Marie combs was all set to go out for a friend's birthdays
recently, but her son Finely Had other plans. "He started crying
and wouldn't go back to sleep," says the Charmed star. "I had to
sit with him for 45 minutes. So suddenly your timetable has
seriously shifted."
So have a lot of things for the sleep-deprived Combs, 30, and
husband David Donoho, 38, a former Charmed key grip, ever since
Finely arrived three months ago. At the family's San Fernando
Valley ranch-style home, Finely has been lavished with attention
and gifts - especially from Comb's fellow TV witches Alyssa
Milano and Rose McGowan. "He's gorgeous [but] he's a little
spoiled," says Milano. No wonder: "The kid could have been
outfitted alone from the stuff that Alyssa has brought him,"
jokes Combs. "Rose got him a playpen Bassinet." with Charmed
back in production, Finely will often accompany Mom to the set.
"he's got his own trailer, driver and nanny, " says Combs. "He's
got more perks than I do." At least, she adds, "he's pretty
adaptable and he'll sleep anywhere." Except when he's having a
bawl.

Holly will be featured in the November

photos of Holly, who seems to be breaking out of her 'girl next
door' mold and into a very sexy beautiful woman. You be the
judge. This is definitely one actress that doesn't need
air-brushing, too bad Stuff Magazine didn't know this. I applaud
Holly's bold move and wish her all the support in her career. To
