| Welcome back to
the February sweeps! Charmed is off to a great start as they highlight a
folklore story, supply a new mystery and explore the magical community.
Ladies and Gents, get ready for a wild month with your favorite sisters!
The Legend
Not only did this storyline allow for the exploration
of the magical community, but also it helped to further almost all of
the story points from this year. The actual headless horseman, wasn’t
as scary as one would have thought, but the concept behind the reasoning
makes sense and helps to support all of the various studies that say
that the least likely students can sometime be the ones hurting the
most.
Point in fact, is that I can’t remember anything
that has been so close to a portrayal of everyday life since the
inception of the show. The fact that the writers were able to deal with
a topic that is still strong and at the forefront of many minds in our
society, is a testament to the way they are able to weave the “Charmed
canon”.
Paige
It was delightful to see that Paige is still helping
all of the “extra” lost innocents. When really looking at this goal
that the writers have given her, it is very important for them to stick
with this idea, it is a fundamental part of the character of Paige and
needs to continue to play out. The fact that she was able to talk the
young boy out of hurting Gideon was important to the storyline,
obviously, but also important that Paige realize that she can help
others…hopefully even Richard as she realized in the end.
However, it has become a little disappointing that we
aren’t seeing as much as Ms. McGowan’s talent as we did in the
beginning. Hopefully, the writers will have a story involving Richard
and Paige that will be the focus of the episode and not just an added
storyline.
Phoebe
The fact that Phoebe was able to go on a “spirit
walk” and see into the future was an obvious set up for next week.
While we all know this, it was delightful to see Phoebe be uncertain
with her feelings/powers and learn how to utilize them to their fullest.
While Phoebe’s vision was an arrangement for the
next episode, it also helped to clue the viewer’s into what needs to
happen to make this season a success. Since the season finale last
season, viewers have been speculating about the true identity of Chris.
As we obviously saw in this episode, Chris is somehow Piper’s son,
Wyatt’s brother, and possibly Leo’s son. While it seems clear that
Chris has to be Leo’s son from the previews for next week, here’s
one viewer who isn’t jumping on that bandwagon just yet. It seems to
convenient and almost too much for the writers to ask the viewers to
accept a quickie from Leo and Piper just so Holly Marie Combs’
pregnancy can be written into the storyline.
Piper, Leo, Wyatt, and baby = Family?
How fair is it for this show to ask their faithful
viewers to believe that Leo and Piper won’t ever get back together and
can’t possibly find a way to make their family work, simply because
Leo has become an Elder? To try to ask viewers to accept that Leo and
Piper can get together for one time to conceive Chris, but ultimately
stay apart is almost too much to ask. Personally, I haven’t been able
to notice Ms. Comb’s tummy too much and could go on seeing big shirts,
cut-off heads, and constant holding of Wyatt to block out her stomach.
That said; raise your hand if you all can’t wait for
the reunion of Leo and Piper? Also, how many of you called the truth
about Chris at the beginning of this season? I know that I was more
partial to Chris being Wyatt from the future, but the direction that the
writers have taken Chris and his whole storyline has been much more
satisfying than I originally thought.
While many may be happy about this reunion, some of
you are probably looking towards the future and wondering where this
will leave our magical family. Does Chris’ appearance mean that Wyatt
will be driven towards evil because of a younger brother? Also, is
anyone else curious as to why Chris only has whitelighter powers, and
Wyatt is the super being, especially if they were made from the same
parents? Although, I hate to be the doubting Tom, does anyone else
wonder if there might not be a Leo/Piper union, but another explanation
for Chris? That would be a real thrill for the viewers.
This-and-That
How exciting was it to see a school just for magical
humans? Yes, they had the robes, but they didn’t have the hats, nor
did they all have an English accent. I was wondering why no television
studio or network hasn’t thought to “cash-in” on the magical
school angle and have a television series on the happenings. With all
the Pottermainia, it would seem like a sure thing, and lets face it,
aren’t we all getting tired of the dreaded reality shows anyway? Charmed
can bring the magical school anytime and I’ll be sure to watch.
Enjoyed that the girls were all well dressed and
nothing of wild girl dress/make-up distracted me from the story. Yeah!
To the costume designers.
Well, I think that wraps up this session of Charmed,
but make sure to come back next week as we learn that Alyssa Milano
looks great in a jeanie outfit and the real story of Chris’ past…uhh,
I meant future!
Thanks for reading!
