"My Three Witches"

This was actually a good, solid episode, despite the fact that it is a recycled plot that we saw before in “Sin Francisco” and “Sand Francisco Dreaming.”  Although I liked it, I am about to poke a few holes in it.

I loved the transition between Phoebe’s talk show and Piper being attacked by the demon. That was interesting, although I thought the “five minute orgasm” nonsense was a little much for Sunday night primetime on the WB. That was until they brought out the strippers, but we’ll get to that later. Oh, and all you girls out there who like a little action, I am sure that Charmed is searching for female stunt doubles, judging by this episode and “The Power of Three Blondes”. Who do they think they are fooling? We know Piper doesn’t work out that much. She had man hands when she was grabbing the wall.

I am concerned, though, because all of the sunroom furniture was sucked into an alternate reality. Now, the sisters in our reality have to buy new furniture, and the sisters in another reality are wondering, “Where did all this wicker furniture come from?”

They set the episode up well at the beginning, by having all the sisters busy separately, so it made sense later on that they weren’t all together. I loved it when Piper told Chris to “shh!” when he kept insisting they fight the demon.

I am still confused about Chris. I am impressed with the writers for actually setting up such a mystery, and giving the viewers so much time to try and figure it out, but now I am ready for something to happen already. Most people assume that Chris is an older Wyatt, but I kind of hope not, mainly because it is what we all expect. I just hope the writers can pull off a shocking moment where Chris “comes out.”

The strippers were really disgusting and cheesy, but Holly Marie Combs did an awesome job in this scene. I loved the faces she made, and averting her eyes was so Piper-like. But where did these friends come from? And how did they know their way around the manor so well? They led the guys to Piper’s bedroom and found her in the attic later. I hope we see these friends again, I thought they were really funny.

I thought Piper overreacted a bit when Wyatt had a fever. She had just told Leo to worry like normal parents, then she freaks out when she reads the thermometer.

Paige’s temp jobs just keep getting wackier and wackier. But she is really good with the elderly, as we saw in last week’s episode when she was playing pinochle with Mrs. Calloway. Paige’s world was a little weird. Did anyone notice that the cellar she found Suzie in looked suspiciously like the manor basement? And where did Suzie go after Paige saved her? I loved to see Paige in fighter mode, though. She was really kicking demon butt in the alley.

I was disappointed with Phoebe’s world. Did anyone else think it was weird that Jason’s greatest desire was for Phoebe to be famous?

Alyssa Milano did a fantastic job in this episode. For the past two or three seasons, Phoebe has really annoyed me with her selfishness, but this episode helped make up for all that. Her acting was much more subtle, for instance, when the man held up the sign that said “or die,” her face really showed her emotions. I also liked that her empathy powers were downplayed, but I would have liked to see a premonition where Phoebe sees Jason being shot. Her premonition powers seem to be shrinking, not growing, as “The Eyes Have It” made it seem would happen.

While the mystery of it was a lot like the “good ol’ days” of Charmed, my main problem with this episode is that there wasn’t much sisterly interaction, which is always my favorite part of the show.

Hole poking:

Why was Jason not the real Jason in Phoebe’s world, but Wyatt was the real Wyatt in Piper’s world?

What happened in “real reality” when the sisters went to the alternate reality? Didn’t Jason wonder why Phoebe didn’t show up for her last day on the show? Didn’t the old folks notice Paige disappearing? Didn’t Piper’s friends wonder where she was?

It’s all in the details:

Phoebe looked so classy in her business suit. This is much more appropriate clothing for a columnist, unlike her usual revealing clothing. If she’ll keep dressing like this, lets give her the show!

Yikes to both Piper and Paige’s shirts. The last two episodes, Piper has looked pregnant in her shirts. What are they thinking? And while Paige’s shirt was cute for say, a night at the club, it was not cute for a day job at the nursing home.

Good grief, how big does Jason’s head look with that haircut? Someone buy that man some Rogaine, quick!

I’m pretty sure that by now, we all know the sisters live in San Francisco. Those loooong opening scenes of the city are not necessary.

Next week: Paige sells her soul. Yea! Richard is back.
