The season opener of Charmed starts with a huge sigh of relief, a new power, and more than a few questions.
Phoebe’s New Power
While it is not surprising to see a new power surface for our sisters, it is surprising that Phoebe is the sister that gets the new power. The viewers might have been expecting Paige to gain the new power since Phoebe was the last to obtain a new power.
It is interesting that Phoebe’s new power taps into her premonition power; it helps the viewers with a more believability factor with Phoebe’s new talent.
The new power should come in very handy this season, since Phoebe is almost reading the people and can figure out if a person is telling the truth, feeling hurt, or just confused. This new power is amazing for the Charmed Ones since it will allow more a more comprehensive understanding of the innocents and their opponents.
Hugh Sigh of Relief
At the end of last season, many viewers were wondering the fate of Leo after Chris seemingly “vanquished” him while orbing. To many viewers delight, Leo was back this season, if not changed significantly.
Leo’s disappearance was not known until now, since he had used a spell on Piper to help ease her grief. As a result of his imprisonment, it seems that Leo has changed drastically, going from a “spectator” to a “participant”. This is, on a whole, very good for the series. The writers defiantly found Brian Krause able to handle action sense from last season and the viewer’s enjoyment of those seasons. One of the best things about this series is its ability to observe its viewers thoughts and then implicate their additional ideas. Leo’s new change is a definite improvement.
Many Questions
While it was reveled to the viewers that Chris was behind Leo’s imprisonment on the island of Valhalla, it is yet known if anyone will figure this out. Leo is on the right track of questioning Chris, but without enough proof, all Leo may have is his own speculation.
This result leaves many viewers questioning about Chris and his intentions. It is obvious that he is up to something, but the writers have done a superb job at weaving the web of his deceit and making everyone question what the “rookie” whitelighter is up to with the Charmed Ones.
Another question that is on the top of everyone’s minds is what will happen with Leo and Piper. This is the relationship that has kept Charmed seen as a “romantic” fight against evil. With the fraction of this couple, one has to wonder what will the viewers believe in if “true love” can be destroyed so easily.
This and That
Some things additional that just seemed out of place:
Wyatt protecting himself from Chris helps to further the argument that Chris isn’t completely what he seems. One really has to give it to the kid for knowing a foe when he senses one.
Holly Marie Combs did such an excellent job in this episode. Viewers all around could feel her pain. Cheers to Holly Marie!
Loved seeking Valhalla Island and another part of the “magical community”. Many of you might remember my hopes at seeing this community more from last season. I found it completely believable that this island and these women do exist.
Did we really need to have Evan Marriott make a guest appearance? I would understand if Charmed was on FOX instead of The WB, but come on, really?
Fashion
I usually don’t have to make a whole sub-topic in regards to the amount of flesh exposed and the choice of attire, but I just have too many complaints, so bare with me.
Chris is cute and all, but I really don’t need to see his butt crack as he chases the dogs up the stairs. Really people, get the kid some pants that fit!
Alyssa seemed very tan in this episode, nothing wrong with that. What was wrong was the tan lines that were evident with almost every outfit she was wearing. Make up here!
Also, Alyssa’s tops were WOW! I never realized just how much on top she has to show off.
Really liked Rose’s blonde hair, but was squinting my eyes when she was scantily clad next to the bronze sisters of Holly Marie and Alyssa.
And Finally
It was great to see Eric Dane back as Jason, this character is awesome and someone that is good for Phoebe and her character. Hopefully, we’ll see more of him around.
The writers have us all in suspense with Leo’s new leaf, Chris’ deception and Piper’s grief. Here’s to hoping the season stays this good.
