Take a moment to look up the word rendezvous and you’ll find
that it means, “to bring together at a certain place”. While this
episode’s rendezvous wasn’t a per se “planned meeting” many
different elements were brought together to make sure that this union of
Piper and Leo did happen, against all the odds.
Piper & Leo
Hypothetically speaking one would have to believe that no matter what
happens that each person does have a set destiny when going about his or
her daily lives. The question that many pose about destiny is in regards
to alternating some form of action still lead to the end destiny. Since
the viewers of Charmed know that Chris is would have been born if
he had not come back to the future, then the argument is that since he
has altered the past, has he changed too much of the future. While I don’t
want to wander too far from the yellow brick road, it is interesting to
note that no matter what Chris’ actions it seems that he was destine
to be born.
That said; it is unfortunate that we, the viewer, were not able to
share in Piper and Leo’s union more. It was disappointing to see such
a quick admittance of feelings from Leo without too much heartache.
While it may soon to be that there will be more anguish for Piper and
Leo, it left a hollow feeling that all the viewer’s got was a couple
of tears, kiss, and small admittance that Leo missed Piper.
Gideon & Leo
While it did come to a shock to me that Gideon was behind the plot to
hurt Leo, I still figured it out with plenty of time. In fact, I believe
the moment of realization came when Leo was seeking advice from Gideon
about the Darklighter. While this revelation carries huge significance,
it did seem a little too convenient that Gideon was still on the show.
Still, however convenient, it looks as though Gideon will be a worthy
opponent if only because he is supposedly good, and won’t be the first
thing on the sister’s radar.
It was delightful to see that the writers are going to expand on the
school storyline and explore Gideon and Leo’s relationship of mentor
and student. Also, seeing as this looks to be about a longer episode
arch involving a specific evil, the viewer’s can expect a more
in-depth and detailed storyline, reminiscent for Cole/The Source of Evil
plot arcs. Something that many viewers have missed and look can look
forward to.
Phoebe/Paige/Piper
It was great to see the “sister” bond working so well. I didn’t
realize that with Phoebe’s power of feeling others emotions that she
would be able to sense Piper, not to mention on another plane. That was
a great bonding moment for the sisters. I think another moment would be
when Paige and Phoebe have to actually tell Piper that she is pregnant
and that her son is Chris. Not only will this be shocking to Piper, for
the obvious reasons, but she could also have some hurt feelings that
Paige and Phoebe knew about Chris before she did. Of course, the
argument for Phoebe and Paige would be that they couldn’t force
destiny, not matter what the cost.
And finally Chris
Drew Fuller really gets some credit for this episode. It was one of
the more frequent times (more frequently as of late) that he actually
displayed emotion and was able to connect with the audience. It was easy
to feel his despair at the chance of disappearing and this desperation
to actually have a life. As the janitor (I’m sorry his name slipped in
my notes) encouraged Chris to get out and live, hopefully this is some
advice that Chris will actually take to heart. It would be rewarding to
have Chris actually think about the “present” instead of the future
so much.
Overall, this was a strong episode with major developments for our Charmed
world. It looks to this viewer that we have a pretty exciting storyline
ahead for the rest of the season.
