Holly Marie Combs Dishes on Life With Her Boys
Sept. 2008 - Celebrity-babies.com

Actress Holly Marie Combs is one of our favorite famous moms here at CBB, and when she called us recently to share stories about her sons, her new Lifetime-TV pilot and the possibility of a Charmed reunion, we couldn't have been more excited! Read below for more on Holly's life as a mom to Riley Edward, 23 months, and Finley Arthur, 4 -- and her terrifying battle with postpartum thyroiditis.

CBB: Hi Holly! What are you up to?
Holly: I'm in Vancouver shooting this pilot, Mistresses, for Lifetime, and I'm without my kids for the first time! I've never been away from them for this long. I made the decision not to bring them: Riley came down with an ear infection two days before we were supposed to leave, so he couldn't fly, and I was very upset about that. And Finley was just in so many four-year-old activities, like summer school and karate, that we couldn't take him out.
I was forced to come up here without either one of them, and it's so weird to me! My husband [David Donoho] sends me pictures of them on the playground, and they look years older to me even though I've only been gone a matter of days!

Alyssa Milano "Single With Parents"
Sept. 2008

The network's description: "(from ABC's press release, August 2008) Meet Louisa. We'll call her Lou. This wistful mid-30's gal is thrilled that her divorced parents are leading exciting lives apart really she is. Except both of them rely on Lou way too much: Dad needs her as a surrogate parent, and Mom counts on her 24/7 as a shrink and confidante. Hoping to finally live a full life all her own, Lou asks the universe for three teeny-tiny favors: A perfect wife for her dad. A perfect best friend for her mom: And the perfect guy for her. As the saying goes, be careful what you wish for... Before she knows it, she finds herself at Dad's house meeting Nancy, a sweet and generous aquarium tour guide who's soon to become Lou's new stepmom. Although Dad's crazy about Nancy, his two younger kids (Lou's half-siblings) can't stand her. Strike one. Meanwhile, Lou does meet Mr. Right, a hunky and sensitive Matthew McConaughey type who likes her, too, but he turns out to be Nancy's son, and Lou's own brother-to-be! Strike two. Finally, Lou's well-meaning mom announces she's finally found the companion she's been looking for all her life  Lou herself! Strike three? Perhaps, but it never hurts to have a mom on the scene... Writer-producer Kristin Newman (That 70's Show, How I Met Your Mother) digs deep into her own history and heart to bring forth this wise, warm, witty half-hour. Alyssa Milano (Charmed, Who's the Boss) stars as the sweet, slightly-off, center of this family that's way too closely knit. From DreamWorks Television (Undeclared, Freaks and Geeks) comes a fast-paced comedy that has you rooting for Lou to find her way."

Rose McGowan Joins "Nip/Tuck"
Sept 12, 2008 - Written by: E. Van Dril , TheCelebrityCafe.com

McGowan will have a four episode arc.

Because of a likely scheduling conflict, Katee Sackhoff's four-episode run on FX's Nip/Tuck is no more. Taking her place (playing the same character) will be Rose McGowan, who appeared in both Grindhouse movies - Planet Terror and Death Proof.

EW.com's Michael Ausiello confirms that McGowan will play the role of Theodora "Teddy" Lowe, who will be a love interest for Sean (Dylan Walsh).

As was previously said, Sackhoff was to exit the show because she just signed on to NBC's Dick Wolf-produced pilot, Lost and Found.

This is McGowan's first major TV role since Charmed ended its run in 2006. Sackhoff has legions of loyal fans because of her appearance on Battlestar Galactica.

Other original programming planned for TheWB.com includes "Chadam," a 3D animation project from cutting-edge artist Alex Pardee and producer Jason Hall of HDFILMS Inc.; "Rich Girl/Poor Girl," a reality series from Gary Auerbach ("Laguna Beach,") which finds a wealthy Orange County, Calif. girl swapping lives with a low-income Los Angeles teen; and "High Drama: Against All Oz," an unscripted series from James Percelay ("Saturday Night Live") which documents the production of a big-budget high school musical. Users will now be able to take ownership of these cherished characters and relationships and bring them into their homes on their own terms, customizing, reordering, re-editing and reinterpreting these shows in a very personal way.

Robert Rodriguez reteams with Rose McGowan in 'Red Sonja'
By Susan Wloszczyna, USA TODAY

Red Sonja is back.

And Robert Rodriguez has her.

The Grindhouse co-director will produce a new big-screen adventure featuring the flame-haired comic-book vixen. While Brigitte Nielsen wielded Sonja's sword in the poorly received 1985 version, Rodriguez's Planet Terror zombie slayer and real-life leading lady, Rose McGowan, will wiggle into the metal mesh bikini in the 2010 release.

"I was surprised when Rose brought me a script of Red Sonja that she liked," Rodriguez says from his home base of Austin, where he is shooting Shorts, a family film with James Spader and Jon Cryer. "I found it very entertaining. Sonja was strong, smart, cunning - just about everything she'd have to be to survive."

McGowan's initial impulse when offered the part? To laugh.
"When they first came to me with it, I thought it was funny," says the actress, 34. "I do have a body made for sitting on a veranda with mint juleps and a parasol. I don't know why I always have to save the planet."

Rodriguez considers her a perfect fit as the mighty, and mighty voluptuous, avenger. "Rose is a pistol. She's whip-smart, has attitude to burn, is sexy, extremely strong, yet has a vulnerable side that would surprise her closest friends. That description also fits Red Sonja."

Not that his star isn't committed to the whole barbarian babe concept, including the crimson locks.
"I do have a very scrappy-do personality," says McGowan, who will undergo intense training before filming starts in October. "I lean toward physicality. The story has characters trashed by life who fight their way back. That is my theme."

Unlike her one-legged Planet Terror heroine, she assures, "I need all my limbs for this."
McGowan and Rodriguez have not seen Nielsen in the original, and they have no plans to catch up. As the actress explains, "Why put that in my head?"

Instead, the origin story, to be directed by longtime Rodriguez associate Douglas Aarniokoski, will take its cues from the comic books as well as works by pulp novelist Robert E. Howard, father of the original Sonja (then spelled Sonya) and Conan the Barbarian (also undergoing a movie revival).
"Howard's goal was always, first and foremost, to spin a good yarn and to entertain," says Rodriguez, who is hoping his Red Sonja turns into a franchise. "That's our goal."

MORE: -- Red Sonja will hit theaters in the fourth quarter of 2009 (one imagines for Christmas)
-- Robert Rodriguez is acting as a "hands on" producer, and will co-direct a good chunk of the flick. Not only is he doing this for Red Sonja, but he's also negotiating to produce a new Conan film. It seems as if they would eventually (if both are popular enough) cross promote between films.
-- The tone will be darker, like the book, and when asked if it would be R rated, Rodriguez said, "My name is double 'R'!"
--Also on tone and scope, McGowan (who's quite lively and quick-witted in person) said it's "hard, cold, dirty and bloody." And that she's looking forward to "taking a big giant sword and killing a lot of people."
-- Training is already underway, and McGowan is working with the same swords experts who helped out on Matrix and Ninja Assassin.
-- Rodriguez also admitted that Barbarella is officially off, and that Red Sonja has taken its place. He said financing of $70 million did come through from Germany for a shoot next year, but he's obligated to shoot something else for Miramax. He's negotiating right now to direct a "huge summer movie" -- but he wouldn't say which.
-- On the character, Rose McGowan said: "I will not have a mullet!" The crowd cheered.
-- Red Sonja will be shot on location (scouting now) and will use some green screen.

Charmed Hits a (Final) Milestone
by Matt Webb Mitovich - TVGuide.com - Jan. 20,2006

With its Jan. 22 broadcast, WB's Charmed (Sundays at 8 pm/ET) - which premiered Oct. 7, 1998 - becomes the longest-running television series boasting all female leads, having bewitched viewers for more years than such estrogen-heavy fare as Laverne & Shirley, Designing Women and Sex and the City. To mark the milestone, TVGuide.com sat down with executive producer Brad Kern to assess the show's assets, assay the avidness of its fans and conjure up a peek at its future - no matter how (gulp!) finite it may be.
